Sustainable commuting is gaining popularity

On Friday, 20 September, Krka employees joined the European Mobility Week for the ninth consecutive year. In efforts to contribute to environmental care, employees from 13 countries where Krka operates took part in Krka’s Car-Free Day campaign. Sustainable commuting is no longer just a one-time event, but a visible shift in travel habits. Choosing to carpool, use public transport, cycle, or opt for other sustainable modes of transport such as walking, has become part of their ongoing efforts to improve the environment and enhance the quality of life. This is also the main goal of the company’s Mobility Plan, which Krka has had in place since 2015 and which is aimed at encouraging as many employees as possible to frequently opt for sustainable means of transport.

This year, the pan-European initiative promotes changing travel habits under the theme Shared Public Space.  The quality of life improves where people, their modes of transportation and the activities important to them are treated equally: there is greater social justice, increased safety, and less noise and air pollution. Krka is fully aware of this and, as such, encourages employees year-round to adopt sustainable commuting.

Every method of commuting offers both advantages and disadvantages from the perspective of capacity, flexibility, energy consumption, safety, and environmental impact. Krka takes pride in the fact that the initiatives outlined in their Mobility Plan, along with their collective efforts to reduce personal vehicle usage, have borne fruit over the past nine years.

Whether by bike, carpooling, bus, train, electric scooter, or walking, Krka employees continuously demonstrate that sustainable mobility is a key part of their lives. The number of employees choosing sustainable commuting is steadily rising, both in Slovenia and in Krka’s business units worldwide. This year, colleagues from 13 other countries also participated in Krka’s Car-Free Day: Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, Germany, Romania, Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus, Croatia, Slovakia, Hungary, Finland, Poland, and Czechia.

Modern eco-friendly technology in logistics

The first electric delivery truck in Slovenia, used for transporting products within the country, enhanced Krka’s vehicle fleet in 2024. This truck will save over 15,000 litres of fuel annually – equivalent to what is consumed by 10 Slovenian drivers on average.

Through initiatives like Krka’s Car-Free Day, continuous encouragement of sustainable commuting and a focus on the latest, more environmentally friendly technologies, Krka is achieving its goals – reducing the use of personal vehicles and, in turn, contributing to greater road safety, less environmental impact, and above all, cleaner air in all areas where the company operates.
