Krka opened its new Paviljon 3 that features additional microbiology laboratories, Library and Information Services, training facilities, and business premises of the Supply Chain department. This EUR 20 million investment covering an area of 9,600 m2 allowed us to finish another important phase in the development of Krka. The new facility provides even better conditions for ensuring microbiological quality of pharmaceutical products, allows our researchers quick access to information needed to develop products in innovative pharmaceutical forms, and facilitates knowledge enhancement in computing, digitisation and information systems. In Paviljon 3, which is the result of the know-how and teamwork of Krka’s experts, we place a strong emphasis on quality, enabling us to continuously provide innovative, safe, and efficient products in more than 70 markets.
At Krka, we are aware that as scientific and technological discoveries are rapidly advancing and markets are getting increasingly complex, we must constantly invest in equipment and knowledge to deliver advanced new products on time, while maintaining the highest quality. That is why, in May 2022, we started building Paviljon 3 at Krka’s central location in Ločna near Novo mesto. In addition to new microbiology laboratories and Library and Information Services, Paviljon 3 also includes premises intended for the planning and coordination of Krka supply chain operations as well as for packaging documentation preparation. Together, these units form a functional whole.
State-of-the-art microbiology laboratories
Microbiology laboratories occupy the largest portion of the surface area in this 9,600 m2 building, accounting for 40%. They are an important addition, enabling more microbiological analyses to be carried out to meet the demands of an ever-increasing production volume and to comply with stricter requirements of good manufacturing practice regarding the microbiological quality of products, environment, equipment, personnel and utilities. We conduct a variety of tests using analytical methods that we develop and validate in-house, such as microbiological quality control of raw materials, finished products and primary packaging materials, sterility testing, microbiological assay of antibiotics, microbiological control of the environment, equipment and personnel, and bacterial endotoxins test.
The first microbiology laboratory integrating both development and quality control functions was established in 1959 and operated within the pharmacy of Krka’s founder Boris Andrijanič. Ten years later, it was moved to Krka’s central location in Ločna, where large state-of-the-art facilities allow good work conditions and ensure compliance with all professional requirements. With regular verification of microbiological quality in production and testing of raw materials and products, we will continue to contribute to the provision of high-quality, safe, and effective medicines.
Modern Library and Information Services and functional facilities for knowledge transfer
The new facility stands on the site of a former building where Krka’s development saw its beginnings and in which Krka’s library was established in 1962. The role of the library has been taken over by Library and Information Services tasked with providing professional information to the entire company.
Relocating to new premises will enable Library and Information Services to more effectively provide researchers and all other Krka employees involved in the development and research process with the relevant information they need to perform their work.
One of the floors is dedicated to facilities for training and team work, where training in computing, digitisation and information systems is already taking place. In addition to classrooms, the training facilities also include two computer rooms.
These new premises enhance work quality by providing a pleasant and creative environment for both working and learning.
